Pricing questions
Is SnapLedger tax software? Will it tell me what's deductible?
No — and we're deliberate about that. SnapLedger turns a receipt into clean, editable fields: merchant, date, amount, currency, category, tax split. It never tells you what's deductible, how to file, or what's compliant. That's between you and your bookkeeper or accountant. We structure the data; you decide what it means.
The free extension is open-source — what stops me from just self-hosting the paid features?
Nothing's hidden in the client, because the paid value isn't in the client. The open-source extension parses receipts locally — that's genuinely free, forever. But cloud history, search, unlimited export, and FX normalization run on our server and are verified against your subscription server-side. You can read every line of the extension; the part you'd pay for lives where you can't fork it.
How is the $8 billed, and what exactly am I paying for?
Flat, transparent, no metering games. Pro is $8/mo or $72/yr — one price, unlimited parsing, unlimited export, no per-receipt or per-export charge. (Team is $6/seat/mo at 3+ seats.) You're paying for one thing: turning your accumulated, already-structured history into a clean exported file in one keystroke, plus cloud search, merchant memory, and multi-currency FX. We never bill a percentage of anything or charge by volume.
When does my trial actually start?
On your first Export click — not at install, not at signup. You can parse receipts and build up history for free indefinitely; the 7-day Pro trial only begins the moment you reach for the export keystroke. No card required to start it. We time the trial to felt value, not to a calendar you didn't choose.
Does it work on receipts that aren't phone photos?
That's the whole point. SnapLedger is built for receipts that live on your Mac: clipboard screenshots, forwarded-email PDFs, confirmation images. Paste or drag — no phone, no re-photographing a file you already have. (It handles phone photos too, but it's optimized for the desktop reality of how receipts actually arrive.)
Will my exports match what my bookkeeper expects?
Yes — CSV with clean, correctly-typed columns and your custom field order, or a direct push to Google Sheets. Amounts, dates, and currency codes are normalized so they import cleanly. Every export also carries a small “Structured with SnapLedger” footer in the file, so your bookkeeper sees where the clean data came from.
